I bought this "News Release” from the office of Congressman Gerald Ford” because of the interesting content. It is dated August 26, 1965 and has the instructions to "Kill Previous Statement.”
Ford goes on to say that he was shocked by President Johnson warning of possible riots in Washington if the District of Columbia is not given the responsibility of home rule. He seemed to think that such warning could tempt those who might generate rioting and plundering. "A pistol has been aimed at the the head of Congress in an attempt to force Congress to abandon its responsibility to exercise its own judgment...” More
