I don't know anything about Confederate stamps but my research indicates that these are valuable.   I don't know what variations these are.  The one in the first scan has a spot in the hair line and the glue is gone.  The second one has most of the glue but there is a light vertical line which can be seen under magnification.  The third one seems to have some glue and I see no other defects.  Finally the fourth one appears to be darker, possibly the second variation of CS8 category. However, this stamp has a corner crease n the right bottom.

This weekly paper addressed to Alex Stephens.  was published in Augusta (Richmond County) Georgia.  I'm guessing it is from the 70's.  The cancel is from Augusta and is addressed to the Hon A H Stephens in Crawfordville Georgia. Stephens has written on the back that he had answered it.

Alexander Hamilton Stephens (February 11, 1812 – March 4, 1883) was an American politician from Georgia and Vice President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. He also served as a U.S. Representative from Georgia (both before the Civil War and after Reconstruction) and as the 50th Governor of Georgia from 1882 until his death in 1883.

Turned Cover-Confederate States Central Lab-Macon
Item #: NEW-0014371

I had to open the two glued edges of the cover to see the inside.  There was a large tear where the other cover was opened and I applied a strip of archival tape to mend it.  One of the covers was addressed to Lt Geo Little, Phd at  C S Central Laboratory in Macon Georgia.  Faint cancel on the two Confederate stamps and a notation by Little as to when it was received, giving the date May 27, 1863.  The original cover was addressed to the Rev James W Kern M. D. Columbus Mississippi. Clear Macon Ga cancel tied to the two stamp.

George Little was a Professor of Geology at the University of Georgia from 1876 to 1878.   He was seemingly the first professor of geology at UGA to hold a Ph.D.  During the Civil War, he rose from private to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Confederate Army and evidently had some of his service at the C S Central Laboratory in Macon Georgia.

The Confederate States Central Laboratory. Erected between 1862 and 1865, this laboratory-factory complex spread over 145 acres. It was intended as permanent facility and center of Confederate States Ordinance testing and production. Its main building was a two storied brick and granite structure 600 feet long. Superintendent of all C.S. Laboratories Lt. Col. John W. Mallet selected this site and had his headquarters here. Machinery and equipment for the facility were fabricated in Macon, Atlanta, Richmond and Leeds, England. After contributing much to the southern war effort, the site was surrendered on April 20, 1865, to Union Gen. James H. Wilson.

133rd Ohio Inf-Letter-Cover-Fancy Cancel
Item #: NEW-0013637

Four page letter dated July 7th 1864 from William O Guitner who was with the 133rd.  The letter was addressed to his brother whom he thought lived in Westerville Ohio which was forwarded.  Cancel from Greencastle Pa with a due 3 notation.  Fancy cancel which I have never seen before. Old Point Comfort Fort

Guitner describes movements and criticizes his Col.  Gustavus Innis.  Pencil handwriting and hard to read in places  I’ve done the best I could.

Fort Powhatan, Dear Brother

"We had been ordered to the White House but it was countermanded and went directly to Bermuda hundred from Washington; from thence to Point Rocks on the Appomattox river.  We had been ordered here thirty six hours before we came.  Had we have left Point of Rocks when ordered we would have gotten into "that brush”…”

"We are still staying at the fort. Day after tomorrow it will be three weeks we arrived here.  I suppose we will stay here until the first of August then break for Ohio.  The rebs are in possession of Martinsburg I hear.  If we were at New Creek now we would be rushed into the fight I suppose.  We surely ought to keep that railroad open…We cannot go home the way we came unless the rebs are? And the railroad are built…Col Innis is commander of the post here.  The old fellow gives us no confidence.  They almost down on him.  On the 4th we were to have a review at half past six in the morning.  After review was over he told Col Ewing to "put” em through a couple of battalion moves.  After the Lt Col gave a few commands, he took command and deployed columns as usual.  And kept us all in the dust and until after the time for guard? 8’oclock.  Most of the guards were out on reviews.  He has now ordered squad company and battalion drill every day…more.

OHIO
ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY-THIRD INFANTRY
(Three Years)

One Hundred and Thirty-third Infantry. - Col., Gustavus S. Innis; Lieut.-Col., William Ewing; Maj., Joseph M. Clark.  This
regiment was organized at Camp Chase, May 6, 1864, to serve for 100 days.  It was composed of two companies of the 58th Battalion
The regiment was immediately ordered to Parkersburg,  W. Va., where it arrived on May 8.  From this place it was ordered to New Creek
thence to Washington, D. C., and on June 7 was ordered to Bermuda Hundred, where it arrived on June 12.  On June 16 the brigade to which
it was assigned was ordered to destroy the Richmond & Petersburg railroad.  The regiment was assigned to the support of a battery, which
opened a cannonade on the enemy and then with other troops, succeeded in holding the Confederates in check for 5 hours.  On July 17
it embarked at Point of Rocks and proceeded to Fort Powhatan, where it was employed on work on the fortifications and in repairing
telegraph lines.  On Aug. 10 it proceeded to Washington, thence to Camp Chase, where it was mustered out on Aug. 20, 1864.

2nd Va Cav-POW Cover-Flag of Truce-Ft Delaware
Item #: NEW-0011289

This is a significant Civil War cover, despite some extensive damage as it was mailed from Delaware City, Fort Delaware through a flag of truce to Richmond Va.  The Confederate stamp has been damaged and the US stamp is missing.  The letter was written by Pris (Prisoner) J Q Dickinson of Company A 2nd Va Cavalry.  James Quincey Dickinson was the brother of the Captain of the 2nd Va Cavalry H C Dickinson who was one of the "Immortal 600" who were left behind at Fort Delaware when other prisoners were transferred to Morris Island. Fort Delaware had deplorable conditions and was considered one of the worst prisons that was operated by Union forces.  The letter is addressed to Mrs. H C Dickinson.  There are two edge tears and some staining. The back is complete.  Please study the scan

Here is some information posted on the web by Patricia Kaufmann, regarding mail service relating to the Flag-of-Truce.When the onset of the American Civil War ended postal service between the North and South, express companies such as Southern Express Company carried mail, primarily civilian business mail, across the lines. The U.S. Post Office Department ordered an end to such traffic, effective August 26, 1861. Thereafter, mail had to be sent by Flag-of-Truce. The U.S. imposed special regulations to control, inhibit, and delay civilian through-the-lines mail and letters to prisoners on the other side. The same inner and outer envelope requirements were mandated that applied to prisoner mail. Mail could only cross the lines at specified exchange points. Mail going from the North to the South passed primarily at City Point, Virginia; mail going from the South to the North passed primarily at Fortress Monroe, Virginia.
