Handsome young man who was bought so I could steal the attractive case from him.  He is Id'd on the back of the mentioned case.  Right now he is flying solo.

The ambrotype has some splits in the black backing so needs re-painting or black paper behind the image.  There is a written identification on the paper which I can't quite read.  The case is worn with serious chipping along both bottom edges.  There is also a chip out of one of the corners on the back side.  See scans.

Nice clarity

This is a scarce case, listed at 1-42 in Berg's book.  The case is a rich chocolate color.  Three cracks in the edges and a worn pillow but other than those things, a very nice case.  Ambrotype of a handsome man.  Case is not original to the image.

I had to buy this image despite the damage which looks like a spider web on the top right hand side.  Nevertheless, it is a precious pair with great clarity. The spine is broken on the leather case. 

Attractive ambrotype in a half thermoplastic case.

This beautiful flawless ambrotype appears to be larger than a quarter plate and is encased in a double sided case that I have never seen before. I believe it may be English made. The case has been repaired which can be seen in the scan. There are also some bad spots. One side contains the lady whom I am guessing was definately among the elite and the other side opens to a velvet covered area. I can't quite figure this one out.

The ambro shows a scruffy looking man with his scruffy looking dog and another scruffy looking man who may be his brother. See scan to veiw the condition. Note the line that extends across his hat. Encased in the Dog going to Market thermoplastic case. Excellent condition on the case.

Great clarity on this occupational image. Full thermoplastic case. Minor wear (bites) to the tips. There is a line that runs through the image which you can only see under magnification on the front.  Looking at the back I see the line but no indication that it is actually a hair line fracture.

Beautiful young woman encased in a MOP cae. Sealed ambrotype with black paper added since there are a couple of areas where the black coating has fallen off. Needs to be re-coated but not by me. I've lightened up the image of the case to show the crazing, which is pretty normal for these cases.

Nice ambrotype of a fashionably dressed young couple. Cased in a scarce thermoplastic case called "The Daguerreian Gallery" which shows a woman viewing a display of daguerrotype cases. Behind her is the New York Crystal Palace. There is a crack on the edge where the clasp is and a bite out of three of the corner tips.

Full Mother of Pearl case, worn but intact. Partial tear on the spine. The one of the pearl portions is missing-see scan. Attractive woman with tinted cheeks who is wearing a cameo necklace.

Ninth plate ambrotype which is a haunting, artistic rendering of two ladies who are identified on the back. "Jenny Hoaglind and Emma Hoaglind to M A Foster". There is also a lock of hair in the back of the ambrotype. Both women are covered all over with tiny black spots which are not that noticible to the eye but are under magnification. Half case.

Ninth plate case in excellent condition. Only one small corner tip chip. Houses a ruby ambrotype in excellent condition.

Sealed ruby ambrotype in a Mother-Of-Pearl decorative case. Excellent clarity. Some crazing on the front of the case. The hinge is missing, leaving holes in the front of the case. The clasp is present however.

Prosperous looking gentleman with tinted cheeks and gilt on his ring and what ever is hanging from the strap around his neck. It looks like a nail but that would be strange. See scan to view the little black spots in the image though the portrait is clean. Complete composition case with repaired spine and areas where some of the covering has flaked off. Clasps are present and it closes nicely.

Good condition on this geometric design thermoplastic case with nice image of a young woman.

Desirable thermoplastic case with a hunter and his kill. Perfect except for one little chip out of bottom edge. This popular case has the hunter pictured with a dead moose. Also note that Moose heads adorn the corners. Nice clean image of a little boy. The ruby ambrotype has been tinted.

Very clean case of a child chasing butterflies. See scan. The image of a little girl is a ruby ambrotype.

Sixth plate relievo ambrotype of a beautiful fashionably dressed woman. The case is the popular Seated Liberty with Shield design case. Only condition problem is a slight split in the top right hand edge which does not extend the whole way. Needs cleaning. Uncommon decorative mat. Artist signed J W Stacey.

Nice ambro of a handsome young man. No case and some tarnished areas on the mat. When held up to the light one can see numerous holes in the black back but a black piece of paper helps.

Sixth plate. Image is indistinct. Features clear on the mother than on the child. Not in a case.

       

Ninth plate in half case. Exceptional clarity. Found in the estate of a prominent pioneer family in Bellvue. I visited the small private family cemetery and found the headstone of John Bradford Company who fought in A Company 20th Tennessee regiment. Birthdates 1840-1928. This was the only headstone that would fit this boy who looks to be about 14 in this early ambro. I of course can't prove that this is John Bradford.

Young boy in half case. Good clarity. I beleive the spots are on the glass. I have not cleaned.
