Otto Giers-Interior Photograph-Nashville Business
Item #: NEW-0016234

I recently picked up this photograph but I have a history with it.  Over twenty years ago I won this on eBay.  It was advertised as being from the famous Southern Turf Saloon in Nashville.  I was too dumb to ask the dealer how he knew it was the Southern Turf.  If it is and I am not advertising it as such, it appears to be an eating establishment.  The Southern Turf did have rooms for dining, gambling, drinking and who knows what else.  The good thing about the photograph is that it is signed by Giers in his characteristic manner, in pencil at the bottom of the board.  He chronicled Nashville much as his famous father Carl C Giers photographed the Civil War years in Nashville. He left us a treasure trove of images of people, homes, buildings, and events.  This image does not appear in any of the published works of Geirs photographs. There is a fairly legible image of a man hanging on the wall but I can't identify him.  I tried to capture it in a scan but its too fuzzy.

The photograph measures 17 by 14 inches in the frame. I can mail with the frame or remove the mounted albumen photograph from the frame.  The only problem with the frame is that the person I eventually sold it to, whom I had out bid on ebay had it framed and added in lovely scrip, "The Southern Turf Saloon."  The pencil signature and identification of Nashville is clearly visible in the frame.

Actual postage will be charged and refunds of excessive postage will be refunded.

Note:  Other prominent saloons have been ruled out thanks to a member of I Remember Nashville Facebook.

Excessive postage will be refunded after mailing.

Mini Whisky Jug-Nashville-Scratched-Rare
Item #: NEW-0016064

I bought this jug which measures three inches tall.  It is the only example I have seen.  A nice customer helped me with the name which I believe is Jungermann  & Rusp or that's close enough.  Circa 1880's. The address is 14 Public Square Nashville Tenn. The only problem with the mini is a chip between the last letter of the name and the last letter of Square.  No Paypal on this item as it is only $50 more than I paid for it.  This must be a very rare jug as it is not listed in any reference that I have searched.

This is a very small mini jug which measures 2 3/4 of a inch.  My camera is not working so I've tried to scan it.  Reads "Compliments of J T Doores Co, Nashville Tenn". There is a chip on the lip in the front. Cobweb effect on this jug but it is all under the glaze. There is a teeny chip on the bottom edge on the back, hardly worth mentioning.

Gerst Beer-Mug- Stoneware-Nashville
Item #: NEW-0016044

This is the only example I have ever seen  of a stoneware mug from the William Gerst Brewing Company in Nashville Tennessee.  I suspect that it is missing from most Gerst collections.  It measures four and a half plus inches.  There is a hair line fracture that runs from the lip to the logo.  There are a couple other lines but are not rough to the touch.  There are some small defects that are common to such stoneware.  Please views all the scans.  Yes, I know this is expensive but you don't know what I had to pay for it. Sorry, no paypal on this item but payment plans are accepted.

Diehl's Stoneware Bottle-Ginger Beer-Nashville
Item #: NEW-0015851

Diehl"s Old Style Stone Bottle Ginger Beer was produced by Adam Diehl and George Lord.   "This bottle is never sold".  Measures six and a half inches tall.  Two chips which show in the scan and hair line cracks under the glaze.  Note the horizontal line in the last scan which is a protruding  ridge not a crack.

I have received information from a relative of the Adam Diehl, whose family operated in Nashville.  They were not related to the Diehl company in  Defiance Ohio. .  I have never seen another example.   The Nashville company later produced Diehl's Neu Bru and  Diehl's Star Cola,  Edward Diehl was the son of Adam and was instrumental in producing the recipes. This bottle is listed in the Ginger Beer & Root Beer book.

Bee-Hive Whiskey Jug-Parminter-Nashville Tennessee
Item #: NEW-005953

This whiskey jug measures 10 and a half inches tall and 23 and a half inches wide. Small chunk out of the bottom as can be seen in the scan. Top is rough but may be as made. The workmanship on this jug is rather primitive. The white lines on the lip is due to not having the glaze added, though it was done to the rest of it.  There is a large chunk on the side of the handle.  It was been painted brow and I almost missed it. Finally there is a small chip out of the top of the handle.

believe this is a scarce jug. W W Parminter & Company which was on the corner of Broad & Market Streets. Ignore the weight given, I will determine exact shipping charges when ordered.

If my dug bottle doesn't do anything for you, here is a mint example. Absolutely no defects of any kind. It is not known whether this was made for the Nashville Centennial which would have been in 1880 or most probably for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, which was held in 1897. See my trade cards which are listed which would make a nice go-with for the bottle. Bottle reads Berry Demoville & Company.
