This first edition book was published in 1936 printed by Caxton Printers.  Minor shelf wear.  Gilt was worn off a little on spine.  No dust cover.

This first edition book was edited by Captain Percy Gatling Hamlin in 1935 published by Whittet & Shepperson in Richmond Virgina.  It contains the letters of General Ewell. Choice condition on the book and the dust cover. 

This First Edition book is listed in Tall Cotton.  There is shelf wear to the top and bottom of the boards spine but very minor, hardly worth mentioning wear to the dust cover.  Overall a superior specimen of an important book. 

Softbound booklet printed in 1950 which has interesting stories about the last reunion that was held in Gettysburg in 1938. Includes photographs and rosters of the members attending etc. 150 pages.  This booklet has suffered severe moisture damage with water stains and crumpling of the pages. It should be considered a reading copy which includes reference information only, not necessarily a book that would want to display in your library.  

The author is Oscar A Kinchen. This is a first edition printed in 1981 by the Christopher Publishing Company. Although always called General, Bennett was actually a private  who served with General John Hunt Morgan, participated in his Ohio campaign, was imprisoned and then escaped to Canada.  He was later commissioned a Lieutenant and post war served as a Commander of the UCV. His fascinating history is covered in this biography.  Large tear and crumpling at the site of the tear on the front dust cover at the top. Some chipping of the dust cover spine. Boards and interior pages are clean.

This is the second printing of Pickett's biography by his wife.  Printed in 1906 by Foote and Davies. Inked signature of the "original purchases." on the fly.  Minor shelf wear to the spine which is cracked in the back.  

This first edition book was written by Frank Cunningham and was printed in 1960.  Tells about a Confederate General who was killed very early in the war.  Shelf wear to the bottom and top board spine, wear to the dust cover which can be seen in the scans, and  dingy areas on the illustrated board paper. Clean interior.    

This is the second printing made in 1961.  Autographed by the author.  Shelf wear to the boards and wear to the dust cover which can be seen in the scans. 

This first edition book was printed in 1962 by the LSU Press and is part of their Southern Biography Series.  Gentle shelf wear to the boards spine and very clean interior. There is some chipping to the dust cover which can be seen in the scans.  Polk was the first Episcopal bishop of Louisiana and the Southwest and founder of the University of the South-Sewanee and had extensive service in the Confederate Army until he was killed in 1864 at Pine Mountain.   Select media mail for a savings with check out.

This first edition book by John Wiley & Sons was published in 1996.  Fine condition on the hardcover and also on the dust jacket.

This is a first edition book published by the LSU Press in 1963.  Some chipping to the dust cover at the top and bottom and a tear and missing area at the top on the back.  Boards are in good condition with very slight shelf wear.  There is a small pasted in name and address of a previous owner. 

Published in 1954 by the LSU Press and part of their Southern Biography Series. First edition. Author is T Harry Williams.  Wear to the dust cover.  There is a heavy vertical line that runs from the top to the bottom of the dust cover spine.  Edge wear to all the folds in the dust cover and some chipping and creasing at the top edge.  Light shelf wear to the boards.  Clear interior 

Very clean book with clean dust cover.  Slightly bumped bottom spine from shelving.  Ink handwriting of the owner on the front blank page. LSU Press, 1965 First Edition 

I looked for this first edition for years when I was in collector mode but couldn't find it.  Neale is the publishing company. 1908 is the publishing date.  There is some mottling, mostly on the bottom edge.  The spine has suffered from some fading due to being exposed to the sun and the scan shows the difference in the color.  The hinge is split making the binding somewhat loose.  Full page inscription on the recto page but not by the author and some dinginess that I was able to erase part of.  I'll let the buyer do the rest.  Minor shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine.  I have just seen this listed for $1,200 by a prominent Civil War book dealer. 

This book was printed in 1995 by the Rutledge Hill Press in Nashville Tennessee.  The book focuses on the destruction of Atlanta by Sherman's Forces.  Minor wear to the book.

Very fresh look to this first edition book by Henry E Shepherd. Shepherd mixes the biography of Lee with his pre-Civil War life at the North Carolina Military Institute and the University of Virginia and his own experiences with the 43rd North Carolina Infantry.  Other than some shelf wear to the upper and lower spin and bottom edge and corners.  Gold gilt is like new.  Clean interior.  Some weakness in the strap.  Published by Neal in 1906. 

This booklet is in wraps and has some minor wear including a large water stain on the cover and a clipped corner.  Completely intact and really in quite good condition for a pamphlet unprotected by hard covers.  The complete title is "Prison Life during the Rebellion,  Being a Brief Narrative of the Miseries and Suffering of Six Hundred Confederate Prisoners Sent from Fort Delaware to Morris Island to be Punished."  Written by Fritz Fuzzlebug, one of their number.  This was a pseuodonym for John J Dunkle. Lists all the prisoners by name. 

Scarce first edition written by John Watson Morton who was Chief of Artillery.  Printed in 1909 in Nashville Tenn: Dallas Tex.  Tears at upper spine and gilding worn off.  See scan though actual color is off.  Several notations, some in ink of previous owners and notations of pages important to them that cover the whole front fly.  Crack in the strap on the title page and portrait of Morton. Important book for the serious Confederate collector.

This first edition book was printed in 1996 publisher John F Blair, Winston Salem, North Carolina.  One of the youngest Generals in the Army of Northern Virginia, Hoke fought in nearly every significant battle in the Eastern theater.  He was so effective that it was rumored that he would be picked as Lee's successor should anything happen to Lee.  Very nice condition.  

I believe this is a first edition although it was copy written in 1866. It has been re-bound but very tastefully done in leather.  Published in Cincinnati: Miami Printing and Publishing Company.  Moisture stains at top right corner which eventually fades out. Musty smell but not over powering. Moisture stain at bottom left corner which goes through the whole book.  Light foxing throughout the pages but very clean considering the age.  The interesting thing is that a Confederate soldier has made pencil comments throughout the book.  Ink writing on a blank page which is very faded but appears to read B.B.M.L. Barr.  However on one of the pages the owner has written "The author has more intelligence than any other southern author of his period J A Barr".  The only J A Barr I can find was with the 12th Georgia Militia which  doesn't really compute.  The book came from the library of a historic Gallatin Tennessee family.  The most interesting comment is on the last page and the handwriting seems different.  "Very interesting and excepting the partiality for some officers whom I could not like reliable. Morgan men (many of them) were more thievish but not the brave than he represents them.  I was with them from May 5 to June 20th 1863."  

This first edition book was printed by the Hill Jr College Press in Hillsboro Texas, 1973.  Clean boards and pretty clean dust cover though a stain at the bottom.  Very minor wear.  Cleburne was widely esteemed by his men and superior officers.  He was killed at the doomed Battle of Franklin.

New York, NY Minton, Balch & Company 1931 First Edition.Black clothcovered boards w/pastedown tan paper label on the spine and front cover w/black lettering.  The paper label on the cover is in excellent condition but the paper label on the spine has glue stains on it where someone re-glued in the past.  There is a large paper sticker naming the previous owner and another on top, no doubt, to conceal his address.  Some shelf wear to upper and lower spine which is also faded at the bottom. Wear to the board tips and in one area on the edge, the cloth was worn off.  There are also ten pages in the otherwise clean interior that has some nasty edge tears at the top in the same place through the pages.  Biography of a Confederate general written by an admiring Southern author. Bedford Forrest was one of the few officers in either army to enlist as a private and be promoted to general officer and division commander by the end of the war. Biography of Wade Hampton of South Carolina by Manly Wade Wellman. First edition published in 1949 by Scribners.  Includes the dust cover which is usually missing, however chipping at the edges and tears at the upper edges on the front and back.  Area missing on the bottom spine and chipping to the top.  There appears to be a stain on the top area of the spine on the board.  Inked owner's signature.    

Publisher: The Macmillan Company, 1942,  This first edition book is about Confederate General John Hunt Morgan.  Rare in the dust jacket, though the jacket is worn.  The spine is somewhat sunned and has a dingy appearance.  Some tears, chipping and crumpled appearance on the back cover.  Boards ok other than some shelf wear at the top and bottom, Inked Merry Christmas presentation in ink along with a stain. Clean interior pages but some staining on the closed pages.

The original book was limited to 1,000 copies in 1973.  The book proved to be popular and was reprinted in 1974.  This is one of the reprints.  It is an account of Stoneman's famous raids into East Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia, and Western North Carolina.  Describes actual battle scenes as portrayed by the commanders, privates, and civilians who lived through it. Book was privately printed and is the pages are typewritten.  Some wear to the dust cover, mostly on the bottom spine cover. 

This is the eleventh printing of "The War Experiences of the Youngest Member of Jackson's Staff." Published in 1940 by the University of North Carolina Press.  Nice dust cover and clean book but there is one page that has come loose from the binding.

Minor shelf wear.  Published in 1987 by the University of Georgia Press.  Attempts to resurrect Longstreet's reputation as a capable commander.

Important work by Confederate General Richard Taylor, printed in 1879 in New York. First Edition. Spine and edge and corner wear.  Large book plate in front of the book, penciled in names of previous owners on the opposing page with some stains as well.  No breaks in the binding.

First edition as stated.  Published in 1959 by J B Lippincott.  Author is Dee Alexander Brown. Shelf wear to the top and bottom spin and heavy indentation on the back edge of the boards and turned in corners at the bottom.  Scattered brown spots on the dust cover.  Spine of the dust cover has some chipping at the top and bottom and is slightly sunned. Clean interior. Content covers the exploits of General John Hunt Morgan and his men.

Daniel O'Flaherty-First Edition.  Please see the scan to view the condition of the dust cover with it's damage to the top and bottom (the white area at the top is a missing area.  Some chipping to the upper spine as well. Boards bumped at bottom.  Partial split of the strap on the page preceding the illustration of Shelby next to the title page.  There is also a tear on one of the pages but otherwise clean. 

Scarce first edition written about the notorious Confederate guerilla, Champ Ferguson who left a vengeful trail of dead Union soldiers and sympathizers.  He was a scout for Morgan's men part of the time and also was a member of Joe Wheeler's cavalry toward the end of the war. Ferguson was brought to justice at the end of the war and was hung after a Military Court in Nashville for the murder of fifty three persons.  This book is very rare with the original dust cover.  Please view the scans to see the condition problems on the cover.  The middle area of the scan of the spine is a reflection but note the small area toward the bottom which is missing, probably from the removal of a price sticker. Author is Thurman Sensing and the book was printed in Nashville by the Vanderbilt University Press is 1942.  There is a photograph of Champ Ferguson with one his guards.  There were a few other poses of Ferguson while in custody, all of which are very rare.

Authors Eckenrode and Conrad.  First printing 1936-Chapel Hill-University of North Carolina Press.  Dust cover has some tears along the bottom edge of the front cover and at the top of the back cover. There is also some chipping on the spine.  Rare to have the dust cover on this book.

John G Barrett was the editor of this interesting journal listed in "In Tall Cotton" a compilation of must read civil war books.  Printed by the University of North Carolina Press in 1966.  Scarce dust cover but chipping at the top and bottom of the spine and other minor wear.  Embossed stamp of a previous owner.

Scarce biography of Bushrod Rust Johnson, a Quaker born in Ohio, who became one of only 18 Northern-born West Point Graduates to join the CSA during the Civil War. Author Charles M Cummings Fairleigh Dickinson University Press,  1971. Minor wear to the dust cover and book.

Publishing date is 1954, Rinehart & Company.  Split at the title page.  Book plate of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (with the Confederate Shield) given to Vena Stuart School through the Clark Chapter of the UDC.  A stamp from the library on the back page.  Discolored spine and stains of the spine of the dust cover which also has some chipping and tears.

Second edition printed in 1957.  Some shelf ware to the bottom spine and some chipping to the dust cover.  Clean interior 

As new condition on the 1992 first edition.  Written by Brian Steel Wills. Covers his life from childhood, his life in Memphis and building his fortune as a slave trader. and of course, his remarkable military feats.

First edition of this useful reference on the delivery of Confederate mail including the story of the Thomas Welsh Provisional Stamped Envelope.  Published in Montgomery in 1960.  Presentation copy by the author.  Slightly bumped spine and some wear to the dust cover including a large tear on the back cover and smaller wear to the front.
