A little detective work was required to find out where this monument is. A magnifying glass shows the plaque at the base of the monument which reads "To the Confederate Soldiers of Alleghany County" and the partial cancel fits with the seat of that county which is Covington. Corner crease at the bottom left hand side.

Three old Confederate vets identified in ink on the front, Johnson, Lewis, and Royster. Ink writing on the back says, "This is the only surviving drum corps of the Confederacy, L O B Branch (General Lawrence O'Brien Branch) Camp Raleigh. the only one in the South." Through the web I was able to find the complete names which are Wiley T Johnson, James J Lewis, and William B Royster.

Interesting symbol of the divided loyalties created during the Civil War.
