This scarce print memorializes Booker T Washington dining with President Teddy Roosevelt at the White House. Titled Equality. Roosevelt's action enraged the South and he was vilified for inviting a black man to dine with him. Washington also was a part of the inaugural services.
This poster is complete and not cut down. It has been mounted on cardboard which was the approved preservation practice of the day, now frowned upon. The board and the print has been deacidified to prevent deterioration. Please view the stains, primarily on the bottom third of the poster. Jagged tear at top left hand corner. The prominent white line at upper area is paint on the glass. Poster was published by Royal Picture Gallery Co, Chicago.
Nice companion piece to the rare Equality celluloid button.
