Shiloh Methodist Church Real Photo Postcard-Pitts Landing Tn
Item #: NEW-0014822

I believe this to be an image of the church which was rebuilt in 1874, after the original wood structure was destroyed in the Civil War. Note the period hand writing on the back which reads "shiloh church built 1874"

Here is some information taken from the web:
In 1851 John J. Ellis donated 4 acres to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for a house of worship. The original house was constructed of rough hewn logs and was about 25 by 30 feet in dimensions. The name Shiloh, from which the Civil War battle received its name, means "House of Peace. " During April 6-7, 1862, the church was the scene of heavy fighting between Union and Confederate forces. The church was destroyed soon after the battle. After the war, worship was resumed in a brush arbor. About 1875  wood frame structure was erected on the original site

Please conduct your own research as I could be wrong about the identification.

The original wooden structure was built by the Cloyd family around 1890. After a devastating fire in 1920, the hotel was rebuilt. The new structure was larger and more elaborate than the original - being constructed of brick this time. The brick used was manufactured there on the Cloyd's property.
