This card was never mailed but pencil message covers the whole back. Flaked off area at mid bottom edge and on left bottom corner. This church was used during the Civil War by General Sherman's horses.

Worn tip at upper left hand corner and small tip crease at upper right hand corner. Some of the image flaked off the lower corner tips.

The writing under the majestic float was hard to read but I scanned it in black and white and I think it says Queen's Float. The sign on the building seems to be Hook Store or something like that The message on the back gives no clue. There is a cancel from Cave Spring and it is dated June 12 so maybe home coming.

Cave Spring is a city in Floyd County, Georgia, United States. It is located 12.24 miles (19.70 km) south of Rome, Georgia. The population was 975 at the 2000 census but has grown to around 1200 in 2010. It is part of the 'Rome, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The name of town was named after its cave and water spring hence "Cave Spring". The cave has impressive stalagmites and the legendary "Devil's Stool". It is located in Rolater Park. The spring water has won awards for purity and taste. Many visitors bring jugs to fill at the spring and take home for drinking..

The black box at the top is part of the printing and there is some kind of faint seal in the same area. I don't know what it is supposed to be. Some staining and wear to the corners. Cancel on the back from Indian Springs Ga.

Indian Springs Hotel was built ca. 1823. The mineral spring was first discovered by the white man in the 1790s. The area became a favorite resort. For that reason it is often referred to as the McIntosh Inn. From 1850-1953 members of the Varner family owned it. Hence, the name the Varner House. The structure and site now have been acquired by the State of Georgia, Department of Natural Resources so that they may be preserved and restored.

Rather lonely scene in this small Georgia Town. The LaFayette bank sign is visible. There is edge wear with some flaking off of the image. The bottom edge looks like it might have been trimmed a bit. Staining. See scan.

This postcard was never mailed and is in excellent condition. It is a later view of the same house, identified in a separate listing as the Heard House where the Confederate cabinet met during the closing days of the war. Evidently this building also housed the Confederate Bank.

Crisp card with tip wear. Not mailed but there is an extensive message of the back which reads Heard House and following that an extensive history of this house. Evidently there is some controversy as to where the final meeting took place and there is an interesting article on the web which explores this question.
