This is a soft bound book written by Mary Louise Lea Tidwell. 330 pages and printed in 1993. It is the story of one of the most interesting Tennessee politician. He founded the Nashville Tennessean in 1907, was elected to the U S Senate at age 32 and led a bizarre attempt to capture the Kaiser during World War II. Many stories in this book.

This is the first (1933) edition of the book which is worn and well used. Useful for the genealogist. Book stamp of the Colonial Dames of America and an owners stamp on the back of the front board.The dedication and title page are loose but the rest of the book is still bound, though shaky. Compiler and author was Jeannette Tilllotson Acklen.

Nashville Tn Advertising Blotters-Spurlock-Neal-Cullom Ghertner

Both of the blotters measure 9 and a half by 4 inches Both are early but well established companies in Nashville. The Cullom & Ghertner Company is unused and the dusty rim can be erased. The Spurlock-Neal blotter is well used and worn. See scans. It is advertising Rich's Tasteless Chill Tonic and Rich's Little Liver Eggs. Quack remedies of course.

This is pretty dingy and has some stains on the edges and into the photograph. Still an interesting looking house which is identified on the back as being in East Nashville on Glenwood Ave.. I got this out the C.C. Giers estate and the woman in the photo is Otto Giers's daughter. The two people in t he back are identified as Uncle Dick and Aunt Sarah custodian of the Giers massive photography collection who maintained the family home in Bellevue until her death about 10 years ago.

This menu has a mid fold and measures 9 X 6 inches. It is from the 1964 campaign in Nashville. The featured speaker was Franklin D Roosevelt Jr. Included in a snapshot taken by me of LBJ when he visited Nashville.
