Important Tennessee book, first printed in in 1890. Gates Thruston-Cincinnati. Many illustrations of Indian relics found in Tennessee. Shelf wear to the spine and board tips. Tightly bound. Ex-library book. No evidence of this on the spine. Round library stamp on the title page and smaller stamp on the back of the title page indicating the legitimate sale of the book, "Duplicate sold by authority". Spot on interior paper of the front board where a paper sticker was removed and a smaller one pasted in the space. Whatever was written on the sticker is gone. No further markings indicating that it was a library book. Very clean interior and end papers. This book is rarely offered and I could find no other listings at the time of this listing.

First edition on this highly significant Tennessee book. Rebacked with an old leather strip hiding the modern spine. Original fly pages missing but book is complete. Title page is heavily foxed, more so than the others, many of which are quite clean, or moderately foxed. Ink signature of a previous owner on the title page. Another ink message and the acidity of the ink caused about a half inch loss of the paper at the top of the title page. One and a half inch strip of thin tape runs down the page next to the binding. Another large ink signature of another person at the top of the next page, "The Preface." Heavily stained original boards.

This is a rather scarce book on Edward Ward Carmack, ex-Senator, and Editor of the Tennesseean, who was shot down on the streets of Nashville. Paul Bumpus has signed the book. First edition which was limited to 2,500 copies. Interior is fine but with a bumped spine and wear to the corner tips. Also included is a letter on mourning stationary signed by Libby Carmack and written to Jeff McCarn, who was the chief prosecutor of the Carmack assassins trial. The letter is undated and was either written in response to a sympathy note or perhaps thanking McCarn for his efforts in bringing her husband's killers to justice. If you can read her handwriting you are a better person than I. Found in the estate of McCarn.

No listings on the net as of this listing for this rarest book by William G Brownlow. Listed in Howes. The complete title is A Political Register, Setting forth the Principles of the Whig and Locofoco Parties in the United States and with the Life and Public Services of Henry Clay. Printed in 1844 in Jonesborough Tennessee. Original boards although some repair has been made to the spine. Part of the paper label was preserved. Front board split but not loose. Wear of course to the ancient boards. Binding is not loose. Light to moderate foxing on the rag pages except for a few pages which has heavy foxing. Repair made to the Dedication page which has acidic markings from the repair tape and two strips are still there. Some of the chapters are, The National Bank Question, The Catholics and Locofocos,the Bank of Tennessee, Mr Van Buren's Principles etc. Five magnificent wood cut illustrations, "That Same old Coon!!!", "Lay on Nancy" (don't know what this refers to) Ex Governor Polk on his Winding Way!! and The Stock-Raiser's Residence at Ashland," and "Polk Weighed in the balances and found wanting." This is from my personal collection, obatained after many years of searching.
