Good content on this letter to Col Samuel L King of Bristol, Tennessee discussing the correspondee's suggestion for a book on Tennessee War History and Heiskell commenting favorably on a book recently published about James K Polk.

Complete title is "The Twelve Months Volunteer or Journal Of A Private in the Tennessee Regiment of Cavalry in the campaign in Mexico. Rare.  Published in 1848. Tennessee imprint listed in Howes & Allen. There are six missing pages of the appendix. Present is  the updated map. Rebound in 1948 with library type binding. Extensive note on the front blank page explaining the years of ownership and rebinding. Medium to light foxing on the rag pages. Tightly bound with some shelf wear.

Reprint of this famous history written by General William Hall covering the Indian battles of the early South West territory. This is the 1968 reprint by the Parthenon Press. Crease in one corner and other minor shelf wear.

First edition of this scarce volume by S G Heiskell and printed by Ambrose Printing Company in Nashville, dated 1918. Publisher: Ambrose Printing Company. Black cloth with bright gilt. Some shelf wear to the spine. Hinges are split but holding. Clean interior pages.

First edition, bound in red leather, which appears to be the original binding. Printed in Nashville in 1878. One inch slit at the bottom in the leather. Corner wear, stain on back cover corner which extends to the fly papers. Pencil owner signature, outlined in ink on front fly paper and pencil scribbling of a child on the back paper. Tightly bound and clean interior. Overall a nice specimen.

Complete title of this book is "The Negro In Tennessee Politics and Governmental Affairs", 1865-1965 by Mingo Scott. Rich Printing Company in Nashville. Printed in 1964. Considerable wear to this book. The boards are worn along the spine and edges. Clean interior however. Useful reference regarding the participation of blacks in Tennessee politics beginning with the end of the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement. Scarce title.

1957 Edition. Does not say First Edition but no further listings are noted. Bumped spine and bleached out line at the top of the front and back boards. One large and other small tears along with some chipping of the dust cover.

First Edition, Lookout Mountain Edition of Reunion At Chattanooga, 1950. Double signed by the author Alfred Leland Crabb, one a presentation message. Bumped spine and worn dust cover. Large area missing in the upper area, including the spine, top and bottom. Other folds and tears and chipping.

This is a well respected early history of Tennessee in school book form. Sticker on the inside cover saying the book is a text book of the state and price is fixed. Ink writing of a previous owner. Some mottling on the boards and wear to the upper and lower spine. Corners turned inward. Dingy fly pages but clean interior and tight binding. Much better copy than usually found.

Worn copy of this well known book which tells the tales of the early Tennessee pioneers. Binding is somewhat loose, ink stamp of a previous owner, words underlined in pencil throughout the book. Excessive wear to the spine and corners of the boards.

Leather cover on this little book by Edward Carmack. Nice condition except for a curled up corner.

This is the revised 1903 edition of this textbook on Tennessee history. Boards are dingy and stained. Interior split of the binding. Interior cleaner than one would expect of a children's textbook.

This is the 1965 reprint and is signed by Crab. Minor chipping of the dust cover, hardly worth mentioning.

This is the 1971 reprint of Worth Ray, a "History of Tennessee People". An invaluable genealogical record. Red, library style binding, a heavily used book which belonged to a geneologist, whose ink signature and ink stamps is in three places on the back of the front and back covers. Interior has some ink, and pencil markings. Ink mark on the spine.

Soft bound 88 page booklet which traces the history of the Tennessee horse. This is the third edition, which was published in 1951. Small tear to the cover and corner crease.

General James Robertson Father of Tennessee by Thomas Matthews, Parthenon Press, Nashville Tn. 1934. This is a hard to obtain book and an important reference on General Robertson. Considerable wear to this book, intact but with loose binding. Stained spine and extensive shelf wear to spine edges, etc. Crease on upper right hand corner of front cover. Ink inscription of the author and inked signature of a previous owner, Thomas and Marjorie Robertson, no doubt a descendent. Clean interior.

by Elvira Garner. NY: Julian Messner (1941). gray cloth. No further printing listed so assume this is a first. The story of Patsy and her year on a plantation (based on the author's own childhood). Written and illustrated by Garner in color and black and white throughout. Stereotypic images of African Americans. Wear to the spine and edges but nice condition for a children's book.

No 18 of this 188 page publication. Contains articles on: 1.Colonel David Henley by Samuel C. Williams, 2. Hugh Lawson White, 3. Quaker Migration to the Wester Waters, 4. Andrew Jackson, and others. Chip out of upper right hand corner and tear on ensuing page. Other minor wear.

Nice condition on this first edition, 1993. Salutes notable service by Tennessee women.

The complete title is A Political Register, Setting forth the Principles of the Whig and Locofoco Parties in the United States and with the Life and Public Services of Henry Clay. Printed in 1844 in Jonesborough Tennessee. Original boards although some repair has been made to the spine. Part of the paper label was preserved. Front board split but not loose. Wear of course to the ancient boards. Binding is not loose. Light to moderate foxing on the rag pages except for a few pages which has heavy foxing. Repair made to the Dedication page which has acidic markings from the repair tape and two strips are still there. Some of the chapters are, The National Bank Question, The Catholics and Locofocos,the Bank of Tennessee, Mr Van Buren's Principles etc. Five magnificent wood cut illustrations, "That Same old Coon!!!", "Lay on Nancy" (don't know what this refers to) Ex Governor Polk on his Winding Way!! and The Stock-Raiser's Residence at Ashland," and "Polk Weighed in the balances and found wanting." This is from my personal collection, obatained after many years of searching.

Weakness and wobbliness of the binding. Wear to the tips. Dingy inside covers and some light foxing to the first few pages. Maps present. Red pencil markings at least three pages. Some stains on interior pages.

Thin volume with very heavy mottling on the spine and some small scattered spots on the boards. Wear to the top and bottom of the spine and to the tips. Slit in the interior front fly page and inside cover which is less than an inch. Clean interior.
