UCV-Biloxi Miss Division-1915-Delegate Ribbon
Item #: NEW-0011243

This item is from a state reunion which  I believe is scarce.  It was included in a lot of reunion items from General George Harrison's estate that I purchased many years ago.  Harrison is listed in " More Generals in Gray".  Clean look on this item though you see large areas where the lamination process was not perfect. This causes a clear, spotty appearance. There are also some pin prick sized dark dots which may or may not be in the printing.  The button is one and a half inches and the whole badge is not quite four and a half inches.  The reunion was held in 1915 and the button features Jefferson Davis.  The reunion was the 25th Annual Reunion for the Mississippi Division.

Born at "Monteith Plantation," near Savannah, Georgia, Harrison attended Effingham Academy and the Georgia Military Institute at Marietta. During the Civil War entered the Confederate States Army as second lieutenant of the First Georgia Regulars and was successively promoted to first lieutenant, major, colonel, and brigadier general. He moved to Alabama in 1865. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Auburn, Alabama. He served as member of the constitutional convention of Alabama in 1875. He served in the State senate 1878-1884 and was its president 1882-1884. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1892.

Harrison was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William C. Oates. He was reelected to the Fifty-fourth Congress and served from November 6, 1894, to March 3, 1897. He resumed the practice of law in Opelika, Alabama. He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1901. He served as general counsel for the Western Railway of Alabama. Division counsel for the Central of Georgia Railway. He died in Opelika, Alabama, July 17, 1922. He was interred in Rosemere Cemetery.

Item #: NEW-0010834

Two and a quarter inch button made for the North Carolina Confederate Veterans Reunion in Asheville Sept 26 27 28 1922.  I believe this is a rare button  and the state reunion items are usually more scarce than the national reunions.  No celluloid splits or foxing but under magnification I can spot some scratches and the surface is bumpy.  There are some pin prick sized (under magnification) spots, most of which may be in the printing.  This is a good looking button to the eye.

Silk Ribbon-UCV Reunion-1907 Richmond Va
Item #: NEW-0010750

This item is one of a kind and was made for a Tennessee woman attending the 1907 United Confederate Veterans Reunion in Richmond Virginia.  It is hand painted and  framed.  It measures 18 by 3 and a half inches.  It has unfortunately been glued to the backing at the top and the bottom and there are spots where the glue has bled through.  I'm not crazy about the frame but it will of necessity accompany the ribbon which may or may not be able to be re-framed.  It makes a beautiful display and has hung on my wall for many years along with a similar companion ribbon which is listed separately.

This is one of two ribbons that came together. One was for the sponsor and the other for the Maid of Honor, also on my site. I'm not sure which one was for the sponsor or the Maid of Honor but this may have belonged to Mary Graham Kyle.   She was the youngest daughter of the late Capt. Leondidis Netherland Kyle, of Compnay E of the 29th Tenn Infantry.   The other possibility is Theresa Perkins McGavock of Franklin Tennessee, who was the granddaughter of Maj Edward J. McGaavock of the 59the Mississippi Infantry

Great photo just a little larger than a postcard.  Period writing on the back reads, "Compliments of Robert S Walker, Editor the Southern Fruit Growers, Chattanooga Tenn.  Photo taken at Camp Steward Jackson Park, Chattanooga, Tenn, May 28, 1913 during Confederate Reunion: Little folks:  Robert Walker Jr on right Wendell Walker on left." This photo along with unrelated news clippings has names written on the back which the previous owner wrote whom he believed to be the old vets.  I will list in order  William J Bush of Ga. ( I actually believe it to be John D Dowling of Ga, whose photo can be found on my site.)  P R Crump Alabama, Samuel E Bennett North Carolina, Arnold Murray South Carolina, Thomas E Riddle Texas, General Harry Rene Lee, and William M Buck, Oklahoma.  Some of them may be in order but General Lee is clearly in the middle on the back row.

Missouri UCV Button- Maid of Honor Ribbon
Item #: NEW-009072

This attractive UCV (United Confederate Veteran) item is marred with some condition problems. There is a celluloid button encased in a brass holder which measures two inches. Unfortunately the celluloid has several celluloid splits . They appear as lines in the scan. Through not that viiable to the eye, there is a rough feel to the finger as you run your finger over the celluloid. There is also wear to the ribbons which include separations in several places on the white ribbon. I'm guessing that repairs have been made to the back of the ribbons and can only hope but cannot guarantee that repairs were made with acid free tape. The ribbon extends twenty one inches from the bottom of the celluloid. This item has been shrunk wrapped so would mail it that way. I fortunately did remove the shrink wrap from the area covering the celluloid to examine it more closely which I should have done before purchasing it. Am offering for what I paid for it. Button reads Missouri Division UCV T C Love Maj Gen'l Commanding. Made for the Washington D C United Confederate Veteran Reunion.

Rare broadside announcing a big event during the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in 1897 which also hosted an important Confederate Reunion held in Nashville Tennessee. Broadside describes mock battles re-living past Civil War Battles. I understand that the South sometimes won the battle. This broadside measures around 11 by 9 inches. It has been trimmed. Encapsulated to protect it from more damage which includes folds and some stains. "Showing where the 1st Tenn., Col. Peter Turney;; 7th Tenn., Col S G Shepherd; and the 14th Tenn., Col. Wm A Forbes--Archer's Brigade; charged, on the right of Pickett's Division, adding luster to the established history of Southern heroism and unrivaled bravery. This day, Tuesday, September 14th, has been given by Mr A W McConnell, the proprietor of the Cyclorama, for the benefit of the Confederate soldiers. The Cyclorama of the Battle of Gettysburg is on Vanity Fair...It is so realistic that old soldiers think they are again in battle." This button is for the Sons of the Confederate Veterans (SCV) and is identical to the one issued for the veterans. The ribbon is worn and has been repaired in several place with archival, non acidic tape. It has been used to repair separations in the ribbon but mostly to reinforce areas that look like it could easily separate. See scan of the back. There are no cracks or foxing in the button. Area to right bottom of button seems to be residue from a price sticker.

Brass badge attached to the top. 14 and a half inches long. The red ribbon has one slight separation at one of the folds and edge and bottom red side has been repaired where the ribbon was completely separated. The tape used seems to be the store bought "acid free" scotch tape but 99 percent of the tape is across the paper on the back which was attached identifying the item as being manufactured by the Whitehead Hoag Company.
